Dubleve Wands (named after how the letter ‘w’ is pronounced in French) is the brainchild of Jessie Clayman of Kitchener. Mx Clayman operates an artist gallery and store featuring local talent from Kitchener-Waterloo. It first opened to the public in late 2019. Despite the pressures starting a small business presents, no one is prepared for a global pandemic.
“Opportunity presented itself,” explains the proprietor, “and then the unthinkable happens and you’re suddenly on your toes.”

Mx Clayman and their husband, Jonathan Clayman, agreed to keep renting out the shop; but the doors remained closed. Until October 2021.
“We’re both double vaccinated now, and it’s time to get the shop doors open to the public. Cases are going down; it feels like the right time.”
The shop was going to be part workspace and part showcase for Jessie Clayman’s art. Dubleve Wands has been reworked into fostering the arts community in Kitchener-Waterloo. It specifically
focuses on more fantastical and macabre subjects. It’s become a magical sundry emporium.
“I thought about the space and the arts community and all of the local makers. How festivals are only now starting to open; but this time of year, many of them will be indoors at limited capacity. I have this space, and I wanted to open it up to local artists who missed out on festivals and conventions this year, like I did.”
The shop carries a range of items including: fantasy animal toys, magic wands, witch hats, mouse ears, Tarot decks, original paintings, prints, jewelry, charms, pins, ceramics, figurines, ornaments, macramé, cards, quills, and mounted dragon heads. Mx Clayman chimes, “There’s more interested artists all the time now. I don’t know what we’ll be carrying next!”
