Art Swap 2022

From now until the cut off for submission, you can drop off tired art you no longer love looking at. Bring it to the store for ticket(s) you can trade for new-to-you art.

Let’s face it, we’ve been staring at the same four walls for so long now, we could all use something else to look at. Let’s destigmatize recycling art and brighten up our homes with something fresh to gaze upon.

The cut off for dropping of art pieces in good condition is Thursday February third at five o’clock. It can be any kind of art, but we recommend you hold off donating art supplies or hand crafted items at this time. There will be a Craft Swap in a few months, and those items will be better donated later for that event.

Once you drop off art and have your ticket(s), you can trade for a new piece(s) during the Swap event weekend. Dates and times are as follows: Friday February fourth from seven o’clock in the evening to nine o’clock at night, Saturday February fifth from ten in the morning to five in the afternoon, and Sunday February sixth from ten in the morning to five in the afternoon.

Art can be in a frame, or not, a print, an original, illustration, painting (oil, acrylic, including fabric textiles and thread painting), quilts, macramé wall hangings, photographs, etc. If it can hang on a wall, it can be submitted. A second category of art open at this time is artistic home décor and fine sculpture including art dolls. A third category of art open for this time is jewelry: fashion, beaded, semi-precious stones, precious metals.

What will not be accepted re: art at this time are: toys, clothes, bags, blankets, table cloths, pillows, books, costume jewelry, etc. These items will be accepted at the future craft swap.

The reason I like swapping things is we don’t have to secretly throw something away we know has some value another person may recognize and appreciate more than ourselves. It keeps items from going into landfills and extends the value of these pieces.

Dubleve Wands (named after how the letter ‘w’ is pronounced in French) is the brainchild of Jessie Clayman of Kitchener. Mx Clayman operates an artist gallery and store featuring local talent from Kitchener-Waterloo. It first opened to the public in late 2019. Despite the pressures starting a small business presents, no one is prepared for a global pandemic.
“Opportunity presented itself,” explains the proprietor, “and then the unthinkable happens and you’re suddenly on your toes.”

Mx Clayman and their husband, Jonathan Clayman, agreed to keep renting out the shop; but the doors remained closed. Until October 2021.
“We’re both double vaccinated now, and it’s time to get the shop doors open to the public. Cases are going down; it feels like the right time.”
The shop was going to be part workspace and part showcase for Jessie Clayman’s art. Dubleve Wands has been reworked into fostering the arts community in Kitchener-Waterloo. It specifically
focuses on more fantastical and macabre subjects. It’s become a magical sundry emporium.
“I thought about the space and the arts community and all of the local makers. How festivals are only now starting to open; but this time of year, many of them will be indoors at limited capacity. I have this space, and I wanted to open it up to local artists who missed out on festivals and conventions this year, like I did.”
The shop carries a range of items including: fantasy animal toys, magic wands, witch hats, mouse ears, Tarot decks, original paintings, prints, jewelry, charms, pins, ceramics, figurines, ornaments, macramé, cards, quills, and mounted dragon heads. Mx Clayman chimes, “There’s more interested artists all the time now. I don’t know what we’ll be carrying next!”
If you’re looking for unique gifts, something for your growing collection, or you’re an artist in search of a place to sell your wares; check out Dubleve Wands at 142 Waterloo St, Right Side Entrance, Waterloo ON  N2J 1Y2 at the corner of Graham St.

Open for Business

The brick and mortar is opening this weekend. Oct 2nd & 3rd 10:00am – 5pm at 142 Waterloo St Waterloo ON N2J 1Y2 corner of Graham St.

Street parking for shopping is available. Building parking is for those who live in the building. I don’t live here so I don’t have a parking spot. I apologize for any inconvenience this causes.

The entrance to the wand shop is on the right side of the building down Direction Alley (what I call it) the door is on the end. I have windows facing out and you’ll be able to see the Dubleve Wands letters on my sill. Down a few steps and I’m the first door on the left (it’s kind of tucked in).

I’m excited to meet the local artists who have already reached out to discuss commission opportunities. I’ll post images of their items to social media once we’re all settled in.

Shopwide Updates

Just completed updating the Dubleve Wands Website! All posted inventory is up to date. Only thing left to do is post some new items and the full inventory will be complete. New site layout and graphics are easier on the eyes.

In other news, the Twilight Rabbit Tarot is also going through an upgrade. A guidebook is being written that will be included with future versions of the deck. You can follow the progress of this product on our sister site:
In the meantime, the deck is available with a single sheet graph showing the basic meanings of the cards.

The brick and mortar shop is still closed to the public at this time. There are plans to reopen, but there is no eta on reopening at this time. New shop furniture and features are to be installed first to showcase new items for sale.

There has been an inventory issue with various wands in the shop. All online wand inventory has been reduced to zero until an accurate count can be taken. I’m hoping to get this issue resolved quickly, but it will take some days while we go over why it happened in the first place.

If you have a question about any of the wands on the site, I can do a physical look up to see if we have it in stock for you.

Thank you for your patience during this time. The shop will likely remain closed to the public for several months yet. Curbside is still available by prearranged appointment.

Happy Holidays and a healthy New Year to you and yours.
