Potion Making

The next class will the September 2023, date to be announced.

$80 per person (aged 16+) per class and you can take home a potion of your very own! These are the swirly potions you may have seen on my TikTok feed. They are not for drinking but can be a useful meditation aid. Great to decorate an altar, shelf, or desk.
This is an immersive experience. You will be led by Instructor Jynx Rabbitpaw in the art of potion making with some discussion about the various properties of the magical ingredients. You can take what you learn from the course and make your own potions at home. The course includes: A glass bottle, printed instructions, ingredients to make one potion, potion labels (you can take the extra ones home!), wax seal, trimming to decorate your bottle, a charm, diploma with your class grade (frame not included).

The class will begin with health and safety and accessibility overview. You will be provided aprons, but note if you come in costume, and your clothes become stained or dirty, we are not responsible for any damage incurred by participating in this class.

FAQ

q: Can you drink the potions?
a: No. The potions are made to be shaken and to watch the swirls as you focus on the outcome of your meditation. Some potions change colour. Most of the ingredients are safe if digested; but to be on the safe side, best not to ingest since that is not the intention.

q: What goes into a potion?
a: Distilled water, vegetable glycerin, craft glitter, mica powder, food colouring (optional), 70% isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol to prevent mold). During the classes, some ingredients like the craft glitter and mica powder will be labeled with magical names of creatures (and other ingredients) for part of the immersive experience. Students get to keep a label of the real ingredients and the instructions with the pretend ingredients.

q: Do we get to decorate the bottles?
a: Yes, that’s a large part of the class. Once the potion is made, the glass bottle gets to be decorated and sealed. We provide you with an assortment of materials to zhuzh up the bottle’s appearance. We have an assortment of paints, wax, wax seals, trim, and labels. You can even add some small charms, if you wish.

q: Will my clothes get dirty/stained?
a: That is a possibility. I often leave the shop with stains on my sleeves from paints. Wear something you don’t mind getting paint on that will never come off. If you come in a costume and it becomes stained, we will accept no responsibility. You have been warned. This will also be included in class orientation. We do provide aprons.

q: Do we have to bring a bottle from home?
a: You don’t have to provide anything, we have everything you’ll need for this course including several glass bottles to choose from and a variety of corks to stop them with.

q: Do we have to follow the instruction sheet exactly?
a: It is recommended you follow an instruction sheet provided… there may be a special instruction sheet left about here or there to find in the classroom 😉

q: Can I make my potion at home?
a: You can certainly make a potion at home. There are tutorials available on Youtube and TikTok, in fact that’s where I’ve gotten the ideas presented in this class from. We do not have a Potion Making kit available at this time for take home; we are in the works to make an at home Potion Making craft kit available for sale. We also are now selling finished potions in decorated bottles in the shop.

q: Can I book a private class?
a: Yes, we are available for private booking of Potion Making and Wand Making classes. Contact us via our portal here.

q: Does the potion class include a charm?
a: Yes, the Potion Making course includes one charm you can use to further personalize and enhance your bottled potion.

q: Can I make a custom charm?
a: Yes, the Potion Making class affords you the opportunity to make your own simple custom charm to attach to your wand. Or you can choose from one of the many charms we already have available on display.

q: Can I get hurt during the class?
a: We will be using hot glue, hot wax, and a lighter; therefore there is a possibility of small and serious burns if one is not dexterous or careful enough. If we do our job right, no one should get hurt. If you feel unsteady or unsure, you can always ask the instructor to take over a particular application for you. There will also be a first aid kit and a health and safety orientation before the class begins.
